Frequently-Asked Questions

Who owns, operates, and funds this website?

This site is owned and operated by concerned former members of the ICOC. The hundreds of man-hours required to populate and to conduct research for this site are all donated. Funding for the considerable expenses incurred comes from donations. The more we are given, the more evidence we can afford to acquire and to post.

We’ve changed; why are you bringing up the past?

The ICOC churches and related corporate entities have never fully disclosed their finances, so this problem is quite present. In fact, many current and former members have requested to see the finances and have been refused. How can it possibly be fair to hide from us what the ICOC did with our money?

Aren’t you just bitter ex-members?

We are former members, but we are far from "bitter". Indeed, we have more freedom to address our sincere spiritual concerns outside the ICOC than we had inside it! As members, we would never have been allowed to call on the entire church to change its financial practices. We are adamant that the church must change in order to be righteous, but this adamancy should not be mistaken for bitterness.

Why are you persecuting the ICOC?

We do not consider it "persecution" to demand that the truth be told. Didn’t Peter warn that persecution has no value if it is because of wrongdoing?

1 Peter 2: 19For it is commendable if a man bears up under the pain of unjust suffering because he is conscious of God. 20But how is it to your credit if you receive a beating for doing wrong and endure it? But if you suffer for doing good and you endure it, this is commendable before God. 21To this you were called, because Christ suffered for you, leaving you an example, that you should follow in his steps.

We are merely calling the ICOC to follow its own teaching of "radical repentance", and to follow in Jesus’ steps by making good on their previous boasts about financial openness.

When do you think the ICOC turned bad?

From the beginning, it was built on cover-ups of grossly immoral behavior among its leadership. In an effort to protect the image of the church, there was conspiracy to conceal information about the leaders’ sins. And that same attitude of secrecy and misrepresentation easily facilitated the financial abuses that occurred from that point forward.
