Special Missions Contribution

At least once a year, we were forced to give a “Special Missions Contribution”, the name of which advertised the supposed purpose of these funds.  The advertising for such contribution included copious talk about the missions of the ICOC and our goal to “evangelize the world in our generation”.  The urgency of this cause was repeatedly impressed upon us, and we sold things we could never replace in order to spread the gospel throughout the world---or so we thought.  What actually happened with that money, however, is far from what was advertised.  This page will detail the particulars of the fraud and misrepresentation, including the following:

·         These “urgent” SMC funds could sit in the local church’s bank account for several months, earning interest.

·         Once transferred, these funds could also sit at the World Sector level for a time, gathering interest there as well.

·         The funds did not all go to “missions”, but funded all manner of projects and administrative overhead at the ICOC, Inc. and World Sector levels.  It is believed that many of the extravagances for which the ICOC has been criticized were funded from SMC monies.

·        We are investigating whether HOPE worldwide ever got a cut of the SMC funds.

This page will detail this expansive topic as it evolves.  ICOCinvestigation.com needs statements from former members regarding the following:

·         Any promises made about the use to which SMC funds were to be dedicated.

·         Recollections as to the statements of urgency about the millions of souls who were going to Hell if we didn’t reach them immediately.

·         Any information about SMC funds being used for non-missions purposes.

·         Accounts of members being coerced to give to SMC.
